Experiences on Drift One
One situation that bothered me was after I had been on my walk for five hours, I got really tired of walking around and just wanted to go home. I wasn’t quite done either. There was still a lot of sounds I needed to capture. I had only been to three locations that day. I was kind of embarrassed walking around with these microphones as well. I kind of felt like I was being sketchy even though it’s for a class and it’s something everyone has to do. So I decided to just finish the walk another day. The second situation that bothered me was most of my sounds were not that interesting. A lot of the time, all I got was cars. It was annoying that there wasn’t a whole lot else going on. I wanted to get various, diverse sounds and most of what I captured was cars passing. Fortunately enough, I recorded a good amount of other sounds.
A situation which I felt at ease is when I captured one of my first sounds, which was the ice cream truck. It was the perfect sound to record and it came in really loud and clear. I was so excited to have the sound of the ice cream truck. It was different and not like other natural sounds. I was really lucky to be on the street at the time that it came. I was so excited to have captured it. Another situation which I felt peaceful was when I was able to record the sound of the church bells. I was so excited to capture a really good sound and the bells came in loud and clear. I was really lucky to have recorded them because one would have to be at the right place at the right time to get the church bells. I was sure that the bells would be beneficial to my blog and possibly help my grade a little.

After walking a little bit, I heard the sound of music somewhere. It gradually got louder until I realized it was music from an ice cream truck. As the truck got closer, the song came in quite loud. I was really excited to have captured this sound. It would be a great sound to put on my blog and would possibly help my grade for drift 1. I was really happy to be on that street at the time and felt so lucky to have recorded this sound. I think this experience affected me because it showed me that I can make my work artistic and beautiful. It showed me that working with sounds can be enjoyable. This experience also revealed that as we are recording sounds, we are working with art and have the opportunity to express ourselves in what we eventually create. This made me more excited to be a film major because now I can’t wait to work with other forms of art and I want to see what I can create.
